The Story of Ebenezer International Academy
When Proprietor Terungwa and his colleagues started Ebenezer
International Academy, they were driven by a simple desire: to
give back to society and create an opportunity for children to
receive an education.
It was not an easy beginning.
The fees they were able to collect from families were, as he
describes them, little more than stipends. There were
significant financial limitations, but the passion to serve
remained. They were determined to make a difference in the
lives of children, even when the resources available to them
were limited.
Part of that commitment was their desire to inculcate the Word
of God into the lives of the children. In the course of this
journey, they encountered a brother, Ebenezer, whom they
allowed to evangelize to the children. They did not expect
anything in return. They were simply opening their doors to an
opportunity to serve and positively influence the lives of the
children entrusted to them.
Then, The Esther Foundation stepped in.
For Terungwa, TEF's intervention became a turning point for
the school. What began as support grew into something he
describes as a game changer, not only academically but across
different aspects of the school's development.
The difference did not go unnoticed.
Parents and guardians began talking about the changes they
were seeing. The wider community also began to recognize the
impact. For a school that started with little more than a
passion to serve and a determination to give children an
opportunity, the intervention brought a renewed sense of
possibility.
But perhaps what is most remarkable is that the school's
vision has not become smaller as its circumstances have
improved. It has become bigger.
Today, Terungwa speaks with renewed determination about taking
that original passion even further—to "invade the streets,"
find children who may otherwise be left without access to
education, and enroll them in school.
The ambition is simple but profound: to help put education
within the reach of every family.
He believes that with The Esther Foundation, Ebenezer
International Academy can go higher and higher. And for him,
TEF's involvement is not simply about what has already been
achieved. It is about what becomes possible when people who
share the same passion for children find one another.
A school that began with a desire to give back to society is
now looking toward a future where more children can be
reached, more families can be served, and more lives can be
changed through education.
The journey continues. And the vision is getting bigger.
